Overview

The Bangcock Motorcycle Gang (a.k.a. The BMG) are a four-piece punk-rock band based in Creston, British Columbia, consisting of Guitarist Gonk Oakenshlong, Bassist Thorax Abdomen, Drummer Sinep Littlehead, and Singer Doppelganger Joe. All members individually write songs, although they share a unified songwriting credit on all albums. Founded on April 29, 2008, they are perhaps most noteworthy for their method for recording studio albums: every album yet produced by the BMG has been recorded, mixed, and pressed in approximately four to six hours, and, although the lyrics are often written ahead of time, the music is almost exclusively written immediately before and during recording. Songs are usually captured within the first half or 3/4 of a take.  BMG is the flagship artist of One Button Records, a label specializing in lazy, sexually challenged artists.

The BMG has recorded six albums in this way: An Evening With, Mayday, and New Logo in 2008, The Sixth Element in 2009, and Procrasturbation and Things Going Into Things in 2010. The band’s style early on was characterized by cockney accents and the inability of band members to play their instruments. As time progressed, songs became more sophisticated, often approaching 3 minutes in length and containing increasingly frequent guitar solos. In addition, the BMG has experimented with ballads, reggae, funk, death metal, and blues, although these departures are sporadic. A consistent feature is their lyrical content: Almost every song is inadvertently offensive in some way, most often due to extremely immature sexual content, but occasionally targeting religion or politics.

Band members will occasionally trade roles: Joe played guitar with Oakenshlong on lead vocals for “Dog Shit” and “We Like Cheese”; Littlehead performed lead vocals on two tracks from Things Going Into Things, “Pullin’ My Wire” and “Don’t Spill Yo’ Seed”, and Abdomen took lead vocals for “Boner Blues”.

Live shows are rare, and are characterized by loudness and poor attendance. Members wear various costumes on stage, including kilts, bondage harnesses, wigs, stuffed spiked codpieces, leather, spikes, and chains. Each BMG show has featured almost every song the band had recorded thus far, With Joe often improvising new lyrics, most notably during “Fig Plucker”.
